The lure of Cave Creek grew in fame and prosperity with its reputation as a gold, and later copper, mining town. This reputation drew with it a colorful group of characters that were there to strike it rich or steal from those who did. The miners named their stakes with such unique runs as Mormon Girl, Blue Boy and the Cave Creek Mistress. The ruins of many of these mines provide ample exploration opportunities for the adventuresome tourist.

The mines are just one of many hiking and exploration activities available to visitors to Cave Creek. The Spur Cross Ranch, a former 1920s guest ranch, offers 1000 acres of trails and acts as a gateway into Tonto National Forest.

Back in town, Cave Creek has evolved into a tourist destination with fine dining, antique shops and art galleries, but the town continues to soak in a distinctly authentic Western atmosphere. This Western spirit is evident in Cave Creek’s unique art and line-up of prime events such as Fiesta Days, which hosts rodeos, dances, parades and more.
